1)  Beaches

With endless stretches of coastline bordering both the Mediterranean and Atlantic Ocean, sun-worshippers will be spoilt for choice. The coastal town of Agadir is home to a 10 kilometre stretch of golden sands. Alternatively, why not visit El Jadida? Aside from its beaches, the area is well known for the championship golf courses. The favourite for kite-surfers is Essaouira. And if you want to see spectacular sunsets head to Casablanca!

2) Wildlife

Nature lovers shouldn’t miss a trip to one of Morocco’s 14 national parks! In the Oued Massa Reserve, you can marvel at a colourful array of endemic bird species. Other highlights include the Tazekka National Park and Oasis Du Sud Biosphere Reserve. Choose from one of the escorted tours which offer guided treks and narration on the local ecology. Keep an eye open (and a camera at the ready!) for the unique inhabitants, including the Barbary Macaque and elephant shrew!

3) Hammam

No trip to Morocco would be complete without trying this indulgent pastime – in fact, it should be one of the main reasons why you should visit Morocco! This traditional steam bath dates back more than 2,000 years. Promising a truly relaxing experience, you’ll find spas in all the major cities and resort towns. After being scrubbed, buffed and massaged, you’ll be left feeling revitalized!

4) Riads

Forget the conventional hotel or resort, stay at a traditional riad for an authentic experience of Moroccan hospitality. Typical of the region, these are usually homes or palaces converted into boutique hotels. Each room faces an inner garden providing a sanctuary from the hustle and bustle outside. One of the best places to visit in Morocco is Marrakech. There, you will be spoilt for choice when it comes to Riads.

5) People

Wherever you visit in Morocco, you’re likely to encounter warm hospitality. From coastal towns to the imperial cities and even traditional Berber villages, locals are friendly and welcoming! Often you’ll be invited into their homes. This is a golden opportunity to truly immerse yourself in the culture, ask questions about everyday life and sample the delicious mint tea.

6) Markets

For the shopaholic, the markets of Morocco are legendary. Begin your adventure in Marrakech, home to the biggest souks in the country. At the stalls around Jemaa el-Fna square, you’ll find hand-crafted jewellery alongside traditional clothing and dancing cobras. The northern town of Fes is just as impressive: choose from a selection of markets, but the old souk (Medina of Fes) promises a feast for the senses. From incense to spices, cosmetics and herbal goods, it’s worth visiting just for the smell. Take a compass as you might get lost in the labyrinthine maze!

7) Food

This foodie haven showcases the best of Arabic, Mediterranean and Berber cuisine. With a kaleidoscope of flavours, dishes are often intense and aromatic. Some of the highlights include the slow-cooked tagine, hearty Harira soup and the street food classic, Maakouda. These deep-fried potato balls are best enjoyed with the tangy harissa dip. Enjoy your meal! Or as the Moroccans would say: Besseha!
